Have you ever heard of Red State Update? It's a hilarious two man comedy bit portraying two rednecks from Tennessee who proudly stick to their political leanings in satirical sort of way. In this bit, Dunlap makes a good point about the two parties in Washington. It's hard not to agree with him, and is frightening to boot:

Have we lost our common sense......?
Ok America, let's just pull our heads out of our nether regions for just one second and think about this debate about Health Care.
For the lefties out there, are you really that out of touch in thinking that the only people opposing Obama's Health Care reform are right wing racist nut jobs? Come on, really? That's pathetic. How is this H.R. 3200 not an attempt in shoving a HUGE, sloppy, bureaucratic mess down American throats? For starters, it's 1017 pages. WTF!?! How much does 1,017 8.5 X 11 pages weigh by the way? I respect your ideology, but really, you honestly can look at this bill with objective eyes and still support it whole-heartedly?
For the right wing nut jobs: You have every right to be pissed off about Health Care, but dressing up like lumberjacks and screaming about Obama's birth certificate lacks substance and makes the rest of us conservatives look like passengers riding on the short bus to nowhere. Stop it!
Now back to the issue. I've heard time and time again, the left complaining about the right not presenting an alternative to the Obama plan. For starters, we don't need an alternative to the Obama plan, we just want to put a stop to this GINORMOUS (all caps to annoy the ever-living bleep out of you) bill. Secondly, there are plenty of fantastic ideas about Health Care reform that do not involve adding to our already gargantuan government. Let's talk about a few:
1.) Utilize this wonderful concept called capitalism and open up the market to allow insurance companies to compete, regardless of where the consumer or the insurance company resides. Currently, approximately 50% of Health care cost is wasted on bureaucracy. For anyone who thinks that our current system is based on the free market and capitalism, you're dead wrong. Also, the reason why you think you're getting gouged by the insurance companies is the fact that they are essentially state-run monopolies. How many Health Care Insurance options do you have through your employer? Exactly! If we open up the market, we'll see our prices drop thanks to competition and the free market at work.
2.) Currently, we pay for insurance for a period of one year through our employers and then renew. That's a big screw job if you ask me. We need to be able to purchase long term Health Care insurance contracts, sort of like term life insurance. Why? Because you will be guaranteed a fixed price for the cost of insurance for a long period of time (10, 15, 20 years). Right now, if I had a heart attack under my current insurance provider (and assuming I survive said heart attack), which direction do you think my insurance cost will go? You guessed it..... straight up! If, on the other hand, I had a long-term Health Insurance contract, I would be protected per the terms of my contract.
3.) Higher premiums = pay for Health Care with more cash = more competition = lower cost. Look at the prices of contact lenses: Holy Jeepers this stuff is Cheap! How do you pay for contact lenses? CASH! How do you pay for Lasik in most cases? CASH! By the way, have Lasik surgery prices gone up or down in the last decade? How about:

Here's my one question quiz for you:
What causes this phenomona of increased supply of goods and services and a steady stream of decreasing prices over time?
A) Capitalism and the Free market
B) Government regulation and subsidies out of the goodness of their political hearts
C) Aliens playing jedi mind tricks on business' forcing them to lower their prices or else!
D) Chuck Norris
Summary: Let's get the government out of this and the free market in shall we? Obama is trying to spray all sorts of perfume on this pig called Obama Care, or H.R. 3200 or whatever you want to call it. At the end of the day, it's still a smelly pig and it stinks on ice. Peeeeee eeeeeeeeeew!
My two cents, you can keep the "change".

Sticker Shock

Do you think the budgetary figures in which Obama presents to the public are remotely accurate? Better yet, has any politician who shoves one of their beloved massive spending bills down our throat have a clue about the true cost of these bills? Hell no! Let's not tolerate more BS!

As you'll soon find out, I am a big fan of Reason. Here is a video they put together about this very topic: Sticker Shock!
So whenever a politician starts pitching one of their bills that will surely change your life; before you jump on the Lemming train and follow them off the cliff of "Hope & Change", do yourself and your fellow citizens a favor and start peeling the onion more and ask questions. This Health Care bill is wrought with enough "change" to create a single payer system within the next 10 years. That, my friends, is not a good thing at all.
One more thing: we're not talking about chump change here. What was Obama's last figure? Ummmmmmm let me see...... $1 trillion dollars. It's going to be a lot more than that and don't think he's only going to tax the rich. Is it time to sound the BS alarm again? FYI, here's what 1 trillion dollars looks like:

This is more like Change for Chumps.
My two cents..... keep the "change".

Hello world!
So, I decided to start a Blog today to address my concerns, opinions, rants, raves and everything else related to our country, our government, the politics thereof and hopefully shed light on how the "schmoes" in Washington are wreaking havoc on our Constitution.
I am not a Republican or a Democrat, I am an American. I think it's time we all shed our "R's" and "D's" and start talking about the substance behind what's screwing up this country and how we're steering the Land of the Free to the Land of the Freaks.
Let's start out with some common issues in which I will share my opinion. Today, I'll mention two:
Marriage: The government shouldn't be involved in defining marriage. Gay, straight , or other wise, if you want to get married, then get married and the government should stay out of your business! Now let's move on to some more important issues in which the government's tentacles are reaching every aspect of our lives, like Health Care for instance.
Health care: Obama care is a HUGE mistake and I think it's defining his Presidency. I believe in the free market and strongly support the de-regulation of the Health care industry. First of all, quit forcing us to buy insurance through our employers and let us shop as individuals for insurance plans that meet our individual needs. Quit enabling the Insurance companies to essentially run Monopolies in their given states. Open up the market and let insurance companies compete for your business whether you live in Ohio or Hawaii. Here's a great article about Healthcare: http://www.reason.com/news/show/135081.html
So I only mentioned two issues partly because I need more material to write about in future blogs, but more importantly, I picked two very partisan issues that typically would provoke people to show their "D" card or their "R" card. How about we strip away the labels of Republican and Democrat and just talk about the issues in a straight forward approach focusing on the substance, not the party affiliation?
Do you think you can view current events and politics through the lens of substance? I used to think it was impossible, but it gets easier over time. You see, I used to be a Republican who followed that party no matter what. However, I changed my mind after seeing how much Bush loved to spend our hard earned money, and the fact that some issues, like "No Child left behind", have done nothing but add more cost and bureaucracy to our education system. What a waste! As I get older, I get more skeptical. I think more people should become skeptics.
My two cents...... keep the "change".
